THE FINE ART OF MOSAICS: WORKING WITH SMALTI One and Two-Day Workshops Instructor: Lynn Moor These hands-on mosaic workshops will provide you to the technical knowledge and artistic considerations needed to begin creating fine art mosaics, using the ancient- and luscious- handmade mosaic glass from Italy- smalti. Smalti is the original glass mosaic material- used for over 2000 years. With its intense colors and uneven, reflective texture, smalti is the perfect mosaic material for creating fine art panels and murals. Smalti is also suited for decorative mosaics, such as picture frames, sculptures and vases. All workshop participants will have full access to the MosaicSmalti.com. inventory- which includes over 140 colors of Orsoni smalti. At the Smalti Workshops, we will explore: * a brief history of smalti—what it is, how it’s made, smalti mosaics past and present. * cutting smalti, using wheeled glass cutters and a hammer and hardie * the adhesives, surfaces, and methods used to create smalti mosaics * design considerations when using smalti- exploring color, texture, flow and design. * finding inspiration for your next mosaic You will create one mosaic panel during the Workshop, putting into practice the techniques and principles learned. All tools, materials, and smalti needed to complete your mosaic are included in the cost of the course. The course is open to beginning mosaicists as well as more experienced artists looking to expand their knowledge of this beautiful mosaic material. Class size is limited to 5 students. The One-Day Smalti Workshops are offered on Saturdays and the extended Two-Day Workshops are on Saturday and Sunday. The Two-Day Workshops provide participants with more detailed instruction, as well as more time to work in the studio on a larger mosaic. For groups of 3 or more, special times/classes can be individually arranged. FALL SCHEDULE No classes are currently scheduled for the Fall.
