Have you ever wanted a fun, yet intense mosaic workshop created just for you? This workshop is tailored to answer your questions. It’s taught by an award-winning mosaic instructor in the beautiful and calm surroundings where you can work outside in the fresh ocean air and sunlight.
For this 5-day intensive course in picturesque Cape Cod, you will be asked to bring a project of your choosing to create under the watchful eye of Lynne Chinn. Whether you desire to create and work on a three-dimensional sculpture, make and mosaic an undulating substrate, design and create a double-indirect method religious mosaic, or work on a direct-to-mesh wall mural —the subject matter, shape, and size is up to you.
You will have exclusive interaction with the instructor before the course begins in order to discuss and plan your project, as well as time to pre-purchase all of your substrates, materials and tools to bring with you or ship ahead of you. By the time you leave home you will have a clear idea of what you’ll be working on so that you can hit the ground running when you arrive at the Cape for class.
During your class at MosaicSmalti, you will have access to the entire Orsoni Smalti palette. MosaicSmalti will provide you with six pounds from its standard, 100-color palette (no gold) for free. For the duration of the class, MosaicSmalti will extend a 15% discount on Orsoni smalti and gold which students might need to complete their projects.
The class will take a field trip to “Smalti Heaven” to view the dizzying array of golds, colors, formats and textures in the stunning collection of smalti originally purchased for the St. Louis Basilica. While there, the students will enjoy special discounts on this very special smalti.
During the class, there will be lively discussions and critiques of each of the student’s work, which you are welcome to listen to and learn from.

PRE-CAST PEBBLE MOSAICS WORKSHOP
with DEB ALDO
This fast-paced and fun two-day workshop will focus on the indirect method of creating cast slabs for garden paths, patios, vertical surfaces and other installations. It is taught by Deb Aldo of Pietre Dure Design at the Cape Cod home of MosaicSmalti.
In this workshop, you will be provided with a pebble “buffet” and a kit that will contain tools, mold, templates, drawing materials and much more. You will learn design basics, cement mixing, pouring, keying, fitting, flipping and cleaning. The course will help you master color gradations, size gradations and fitting of stone through instruction and hands-on work.
Materials and lunch are provided, but you need to bring your own clothes and willingness to get messy!

GETTING HERE
The MosaicSmalti Studio is located at 90 Route 28 in West Harwich, MA on Cape Cod, 90 miles south of Boston and 90 miles from Providence, RI. While there is some public transportation on Cape Cod, a car is strongly recommended for getting around and exploring the Cape.
Workshop participants flying in for a workshop may fly into BostonLoganAirport or TF Green Airport/Providence. You can rent a car at either airport for the easy ninety-minute drive to Cape Cod.
There is also a shuttle bus that picks up from every terminal at Boston Logan on the hour and will bring you to the Hyannis bus station on Cape Cod. From there, arrangements can be made to pick you up. Plymouth Brockton runs the Airport shuttles to Cape Cod and you can get more info here: http://www.p-b.com.

Perhaps you would like to join with other students and rent a Beach Cottage for the week? The Smalti Cottage
MosaicSmalti has its own Cape Cod cottage that may be available for rent to students coming to MosaicSmalti-- or others looking for a Cape Cod holiday. No bookings can be made until after April 15. (My daughter may be working on Cape Cod this summer, and she has first dibs!)
The Smalti Cottage is a cozy, bright cottage (600 sq.ft.) located just two blocks from MosaicSmalti and one mile from the beaches of Nantucket Sound. The cottage is decorated with mosaics from a variety of well-known mosaic artists and is stocked with art and mosaic books for late night inspiration.
The cottage has two bedrooms (2 twin beds in one room, a double bed in the second room) and one bathroom with a shower. The cottage can comfortably sleep two to three… four if you really like each other. Wireless internet, cable television with DVR/OnDemand, linens, kitchenware and bicycles for guests are included.
The Smalti Cottage is available for Saturday-Saturday rental for $650 per week, or $100 night during scheduled workshops. The cottage can be booked individually or workshop participants are welcomed to share to keep costs down.
